Why participate?

What is life like after college?  What will I do after I graduate?  How can I ensure that I have the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed after graduation?

An alumni mentor can help you with many of the questions you may have about your education and future career.  Alumni mentors serve as a guide, answering questions, giving advice and helping you to learn more about your field of interest and about yourself.

How can I enroll in the program?

If you are a student in the Biology Department with Junior standing, then you are eligible to participate in the mentoring program.  When we are accepting students into the program, an application form will be available below.  If you are accepted into the program, we will match you with an alumni mentor whose professional experiences closely match your interests.  It is expected that your mentoring partnership will continue through your Junior and Senior years (or until graduation).

What should I expect as a participant of the mentoring program?

Regular communication with your mentor will help you to get the most out of the program.  You can communicate with your mentor via e-mail, phone, or visits to your mentor's workplace if your mentor chooses.  You may wish to ask your mentor about areas of study, career options, or their career or area(s) of expertise and interest.  This is not a job placement program. Your should not expect your mentor to offer you employment or internships.
