Research Interests

Currently I am conducting research investigating the immune responses of Anopheline mosquito species to infection with Mayaro virus, an emerging pathogen that has been detected in South America, with the intent of elucidating genes that regulate viral replication in the mosquito vector following the ingestion of an infectious bloodmeal. In addition to my work on mosquitos, I am also investigating the evolutionary history of human head and body lice to answer questions such as when humans began wearing clothing, how head and body lice are differentially adapted to live in hair and clothing, and what the driving force is behind vector competency in body lice.
